Skills and Ideas Taught: Music score reading, keyboard, accidentals and tempo.
Goal or Challenge: The game play consists in playing the right notes of a music score using a virtual music keyboard by pressing the corresponding keys using the mouse, QWERTY keyboard (standard computers’ keyboard layout), USB/MIDI keyboardor touch screen through tablets. The range of notes contained on Musikinésia’s keyboard is from C3 to B4. These notes cross the screen from right to left and the player should play them precisely when they enter into a gray region where it is required to press the corresponding keys to the respective notes, synchronously. If the player makes a certain amount of mistakes, the game is over and must be restarted.
Primary Audience: Boys and girls from 7 to 15 years old.
Assessment Approach: The game has a scoring system which indicates the quality of player’s performance. This system can be found at the keyboard itself, composed, respectively, by: Life Meter, which indicates the player’s performance; Points, which show how much the player earns for points per correct hit; Combo register, the number of hits performed sequentially; and Points Multiplier, which multipliers the player’s points.
Description: Musikinésia is a 2D free educational digital game idealized to support music students to identify music notes and keys in a music keyboard. In this context, the game aims in developing the ability of identifying music notes on the instrument based on the reading of a music sheet and other basic concepts, such as music reading in G clef, octaves, accidentals and tempo.
