Skills and Ideas Taught: Players learn positive psychological health skills prior to military deployment.
Goal or Challenge: Players answer quiz questions to generate in-game currency, which is then used to place towers to defend a garden from an onslaught of bugs.
Primary Audience: Soldiers currently serving in the US Army who are facing deployment.
Assessment Approach: Players must answer enough questions correctly in order to adequately defend their garden. The game itself will provide the player with feedback as to which areas of the simulation need to be reviewed based on their performance.
Description: Garden Defense is a minigame embedded within a larger interactive simulation whose goal is to teach positive psychological health skills to military service members facing deployment. This game is one of seven, all of which serve as practice environments for the instructional content taught in a simulation. Garden Defense is a short tower defense game that serves as a capstone exercises.
